Way past my bedtime in our little townhome in England, I taught myself to read at three-years-old while pouring over the pages of my first big girl's book, First Thousand Words—a children’s book by Heather Amery and Stephen Cartwright.

My obsession with words grew into a love of stories and writing. I wrote out chapters of my favourite books, told made-up stories to imaginary and real friends, edited fellow students' school work, and there was nothing I loved more than an essay question on a test.

Years later after I was married and living in California, my husband starting writing a novel. I was understandably a little nervous to read it. What if I didn’t like it? All my worries were unfounded, because his book was gripping from beginning to end. After a few weeks of me handwriting suggestions in the margins, he said, “Did you know you’re a developmental book editor? You can see where the story could go, help the writer develop plots, and know what content helps the story and what doesn't.”  I was a little intrigued, but had a steady corporate job in marketing and didn’t think much more of it.

Months went by, and a colleague of mine announced at the end of a meeting that she was writing her memoir. I took a leap of faith and asked her if she needed an editor. She said yes and trusted me with her story. Monica Madrid's book The Next Quiet Voice is now on Amazon, and she had a sold out book launch. Holding that published book in my hands sparked an ember inside to explore editing as a career.

Planning my new business, I knew yellow was going to be the brand colour. It was my dad’s favourite colour, and we used it as our wedding colour as a tribute to him. Since then, I’ve continued his legacy by spreading sunshine, so when it came to naming my company, Stories Around the Sun just fit.

As the Earth revolves around the Sun, Stories Around the Sun speaks to all of the stories we live and imagine here on Earth. I truly believe that each of us have a story inside of us, and it my passion to help you develop yours and share it with the world through a book, blog, short story, letter, website, poem, social media post, speech, and the list goes on.

I can't wait to hear your story—fill out the form below so we can chat more about your project.
